UNSC Falling Star WiP by fongsaunder UNSC Falling Star WiP by fongsaunder
Work In Progress for the UNSC Carrier Falling Star CFV-23

Probably one of my biggest models to date. Sketchup hangs and crashes alot when building it, and it's not even half done yet. Average render time with a single core is estimated at 40 minutes with all lights.

In short, it's one beast of a ship. (poly-wise)

Armament includes point-defense 50mm chainguns, primary "Super"-class MAC and secondary cruiser-calibre MAC, Archer missile pods and Shiva nuclear warheads. Air wing can carry up to 40 C709 Longsword Fighter-Bombers, 30 Sabre Interceptors (I may change this once more detail on the Sabres come out from Halo reach), numerous Albatross and Pelican dropships, Sparrowhawks and Hornet CAS birds. HEV bays are located on the underside of the main hangar, with dual landing decks on each hangar module (think Battlestar Pegasus style). Next to these are "slow" landing decks on the main superstructure (inspired by Starship Trooper's Rodger Young), that allows casual landings and additional storage for Pelicans and smaller craft "on-deck" to prevent cluttering in the landing bays for the excessively huge Longswords.

Ship role is mostly for fleet engagements, as opposed to the only other carrier we see in canon, the UNSC Spirit of Fire (and one fine ship she is). The Spirit of Fire seems more of an assault ship, carrying troops and supplies to support "amphibious" landings from space or in-atmosphere, as well as lower-powered MACs for supporting planetside units. In contrast, the UNSC Falling Star is designed primarily for engagements against Covenant capital ships (hence her heavy MAC loadout and thick battle-plate), and a heavier combat air-wing and smaller Marine complement.

Had to do a tad load of research for this. The overall design was influenced by the TCS Tiger's Claw, TCS Concordia and the Ralari-class Kiltrathi destroyer from the Wing Commander movie, while components and other features from Halo's Frigate, Marathon and Halcyon classes, along with the Rodger Young (Starship Troopers), Sulaco (Aliens) and Battlestars Galactica and Pegasus (BSG).

I just want to say, in case you did not know, the Spirit of Fire is a re-purposed colony ship. It's also one of the few ships to take on a Covenant ship of equal size and win.

Amazing work! Just out of curiosity, would a Pegasus be capable of direct confrontation with Covenant capital ships?

Awesome ship. Would definitely want it in my fleet. :3

Almost looks like it could be a supercarrier. Hm, while we're on the topic of supercarriers... you should create one. ;3

If you give me the length, width, and depth/height of the ship. I can narrow down the number of Archer missile pods and 50mm guns it has.

I'm making a live action Halo film (Halo: Operation Sandstorm) set in the pre-covenant human war, and I was wondering if you could do some 3d modelling for the film. Please email me at jimmie822@gmail.com if you are interested.

The story of the film so far is based around a small event in Halsey's Diary.
The freedom and liberation party (insurrectionist group) have detonated a nuclear device in the Haven Arcology On Mamore, and threatened to bomb more colonies if the UNSC don't surrender the planet Liro to them. ONI cannot give the planet to them because of ONI research facilities on the planet, so they decide to storm the Rebel Headquarters with a large battalion of ODSTs. After infiltrating the heavily guarded military base, the ODSTs uncover a deadly virus that the rebel group have been trying to control (flood), code hydra and code omega 3 are initiated. (code hydra meaning 'biological warfare hazard' and omega 3 meaning 'all troops must retreat at all costs') That is as far as I have gotten up to in writing it at the moment.

Some parts seem a little to Galactica-y, mainly the bridge area and landing areas. All in all, a good design nonetheless.

Galactica has an exposed bridge?

Spirit of Fire shares a similar landing deck arrangement (much like Galactica), so it was natural cross-pollenation there.

Thanks.

I didn't mean in the exposed bridge (although the original did). I meant in the hull design around the bridge.

Awesome work, would it be alright if I was to use this ship in a book series based in the Halo universe as the UNSC's newest carrier design. Of course I would be sure to credit you for the design. Also if I'm not intruding how is the work coming on your destroyer? That too is an amazing design and is almost exactly what I pictured when I read the books too. I was looking at your progress on Sol Shipyards and i'm impressed to say the least

An absolutely breathtakingly beautiful piece of work. Have you ever considered entering this design/ship into a Halo Mod out there? I would personally love to play with this ship! :wow:

I'd say abit less than the Spirit of Fire, since the carrier is focused more on space engagements with its fighter complement than to support marine and ground engagements. Still carries a sizable ground force when required though.

No lies when I say this is possibly the coolest Halo-inspired ship I have ever seen. Including canon ships.

I can't wait to see her finished and detailed.
Keep up the good work, fav'd.
