UNSC Destroyer Sneak Peak by fongsaunder UNSC Destroyer Sneak Peak by fongsaunder
Okay, I know I don't post enough on my dA. I'm sorry, but I usually wait until I finish something and clean it up nicely before actually putting it up here.

So here's a Work-In-Progress clay render of my ongoing (10ish months) project, the UNSC Fair Lady. I work on it from time to time.

Look at me still talking when there are models to build.

Also, check out [link] if you're interested in my workflow. XD

Cheers.

Wow
I know you were going for a design that would have been used throughout the war, but this looks like something built around the time of the Infinity.
Either way, its very cool

Your recent art has been great, but do you have any plans to finish this?

Fantastic. If anyone, anywhere has managed to take the frigate template and turn it into a believable, badass-looking destroyer, it's you and this design ^^

Thanks. Haven't worked on it much tbh, the computer just won't keep up. I hope to finish it when I upgrade my PC at the end of the year though.

Pretty.

I have to stick to laptops for the mobility because I'm a travelling student. Anything with a decent graphics-card, quad-cores and 64-bit OSes (and the extra RAM they afford) would make my day.

Right now I use a VPN to dial my brother's PC in another country for the heavy rendery-stuff, but I still need a workstation-ish PC to work on the models in the first place. XD

Wow, this one's looking fantastic as well! Haha, and I really like the name. :joy: Could you kindly tell us what the large hexagonal section on the back of the ship is? Thanks!

Undetailed at the moment. Nothing much, probably space for some armour and machinery.

I appreciate the offer, but I prefer working on my own designs at the moment. That said, your work is brilliant, especially the texturing. I've actually seen some of your work and Liam's at SFM and the Halo forums before, and they're all good stuff. ^-^

I wouldn't say you don't post enough on dA. Art takes time, and you certainly post more regularly than I or others I know do.

That being said... JESUS CHRIST THIS THING IS AMAZING!!!

very cool, unique design, btw, aren't the engines more exposed being on the outside of the ship as with most destroyers they protected within the main hull? either way still a great design, faved.

Well, since these are generally lower-mass ships, it would make sense to keep the engine units seperate from the primary hull, so you wouldn't have to make a large, massive hull for the sole purpose of containing them, and the added mass probably means that you'll need larger engines to get some decent acceleration out of that ship (which basically makes it a cruiser at one point). I like to justify my design by having a quadruple engine layout, and at each side, as you can see, has one vertically offset the other. The reason for this is that the entire engine block acts as a shield for the primary hull against plasma torpedo attack, at least absorbing most of the superheated gas before it has the chance to compromise the primary hull. The offset both increases the protection area as well as prevents the torpedo from damaging more than one engine block at a time. In essence, I'd rather lose one or two engines than the better part of my primary hull, where all my weapons and crew are at!

kl, I guess that is probably the only major differance between the known Destroyer and Frigate designs considering one is almost a solid slate of titanium -A with a mac gun or 2 and the other with little changes from the older slipspace transport design only with extra armor and weaponry.

Indeed, like how modern rockets looks all similar, but are each individually different in their own way.

Reminds me of the USS Defiant from star trek, the first Federation warship that breaks the mould by having its engines internalised and protected behind the hull unlike every other ship before it yet u would never see that feature on the Enterprise

Indeed. I consider the Defiant more of a deviant design, due to its primary focus on combat and manuverbility, as opposed to scientific and exploration duties. It's overarmed for a warship its size, but lacks in staying power, which it makes up with impressive manuverbility. Yet, the Federation manages to deploy somewhat combat-oriented craft like the Prometheus and Akira without straying too far from their design methology as well.

wouldn't really include the Akira in that, its almost as old as the galaxy class except not as powerful, just a bog-standard heavy transport in comparison, still a great design though.

Apparently, the Akira has a tad load of torpedo launchers (including a dedicated one on the rollbar). Also seems to be a shuttle carrier, which, in theory, allows it to carry attack fighters and the like. The hulls alot sleeker too, compared to the Galaxy, which looks abit cumbersome in my eyes.

Love the Sovereign, one of the prettiest boats in the Trekverse ever.
