I have no 3D art for dummies.

The backgrounds are just done in Photoshop, only the ship and lights are rendered.

wow, your works improved pretty quickly! love the carrier and the lighting effects here, adds loads of depth to the picture!

such an epic shot, makes me wish I had the right programs to do stuff like this.

I am totally wishing I could make my Whale class ships 3d like this, even though drawing them 3d is turning out to be a pain.

I added them in Ketchup. Used Physical Sky, changed colour to black. Voila.

Tip: I added Point Lights.

First you click on the place you want the light to be. Then the "endpoint" would be where the light from the pointlight would reach (ie the intensity). The intensity can later be changed to. (I used roughly 0.4 for the lights at the side (ie dim)
